Reviving an 80 year old home

At Rosemont Contractors, we take great pride in breathing new life into older homes, and our recent project in Punchbowl, NSW, is a perfect example of how thoughtful craftsmanship and an eye for detail can preserve heritage while enhancing modern comfort.

This 80-year-old home had incredible bones and plenty of original character — but like many homes of its age, it needed careful attention to bring it back to life. The brief was clear: maintain the historical charm while updating the home to meet the needs and aesthetics of today’s homeowners.

What made this project truly special — and admittedly, one of our most complex to date — was the challenge of matching everything. When you’re working with a house that’s been standing for eight decades, nothing is ever straightforward. The original materials had aged uniquely over time, and finding a balance between old and new became a rewarding design puzzle. Every element had to complement the others, from the floor stain to the wainscoting profile, door styles, final trim work, lighting fixtures, and even the paint colours. It wasn’t just about choosing what looked good — it was about creating a harmonious blend that felt cohesive and intentional.

A big part of this project’s success came down to material selection. We worked closely with trusted suppliers, including Fedwood Timber, whose products gave us the flexibility and quality to match historical textures while ensuring long-term durability. Their custom timber solutions were a key part of achieving authenticity throughout the home.

Equally exciting was the hardware selection. We were proud to be featured on Keeler Hardware’s Instagram, showcasing our finishing work using their premium fittings. The right hardware doesn’t just serve a function — it can transform a room and tie together the overall aesthetic. Keeler’s pieces helped us maintain that period-appropriate elegance while still offering modern reliability.

We spent countless hours aligning every detail, and the end result speaks for itself. Walking through this home now, there’s a real sense of flow and intentional design. The character of the original structure remains intact, but the spaces are now brighter, more functional, and welcoming. It’s a space ready for the next chapter, built on the solid foundation of thoughtful carpentry.

We’re incredibly proud of how this project turned out if you are looking to renovate your house then we would love to hear from you!
